Rhythm Made Easy
See-The-Beat is a music notation display system that adds distinguishable timing bars to
standard music thereby assisting musicians to correctly learn and play rhythm in music.
Each shaded music timing bar corresponds to an equally timed portion of a measure
within written music such as a certain number of beats or half beats.
1. See-The-Beat visually and quickly confirms a musician's rhythmatic interpretation of the written piece of music. A great system for beginning students!
2. See-The-Beat visually demonstrates to students unfamiliar with fractions the timing of various note values as they relate to the beats within the measure.
3. See-The-Beat allows the brain to vertically connect the treble clef staff to the bass clef staff. Reading music requires the brain to read vertically first and then quickly move on to read horizontally. The shaded timing bars depicting each beat direct the brain to image vertically.
See-The-Beat "EasyMusicReading" notation display system is the result of my efforts to teach students how to count the beats within a measure of music. Applying this method to Jessie L. Gaynor's "Songs of the Child World" has been both a joy and entertaining experience. Although written in 1897, the music contains a combination of classical and modern melodies which are contagious to the ear. In addition, the thought provoking poetical lyrics create a "cause for pause" as insights into the imaginative minds of children are pondered. The musical arrangements contained in this volume simplify the original presentation of Jessie L. Gaynor's music in order for the reader to easily "See the Beat" among a variety of note value and time signature applications. My hope is that you will enjoy the music as well as advance in your mental visualization of rhythm. Devra Robledo, Arranger
Realizing the necessity of harmony between the thought of the song and the music, we have worked together in their production in order that the text and the music might add each to the other. Understanding as we do the innate fondness of children for rich harmonies, we have given special attention to the harmonization of the melodies. Children perceive rhythm before they do melody and the cultivation of this perception is essential to any musical education. It has been our earnest endeavor to make the rhythm of music and words so fit the idea to be expressed that the child shall be trained to the recognition and consciousness of the rhythm that sways all nature.
